“I was the stereotypical guy…..I hit 40 years old and my metabolism decided to slow down to a crawl. Every morning is a new challenge. Our 5:15 AM class is awesome. Waking up early to get the WOD in has become the norm.

The biggest surprise has been working with Abbey on my nutrition. Learning about nutrition, especially the specifics of what works and doesn’t work for me has been really cool. I have lost a lot of weight, but also I have gotten a lot stronger. My energy level is better and my sleep has even been better.”

To anyone who’s ever been—or is—afraid to start: So was Heather. In fact, she once drove to Strong Tower on her lunch break and left before speaking with anyone.

“I was scared,” she said.

When she finally gave us a shot, she learned she had nothing to fear.

“When I started, everyone was so nice and welcoming,” she said. “I never expected that. (Coach) Olga would cheer me on as I walked in the door, the members would walk up to me and introduce themselves, all the time! This helped my nervousness go away.”

Today, Heather trains at Strong Tower five days per week. She shows up even when the workouts are intimidating and tracks her progress with photos and her workout log.

“The changes are gradual, but they are there,” she said. “Overall, joining Strong Tower was the best decision I have made in a long time. I just wish I had the courage to join in 2017 when I first drove by!”

That’s how long ago it was when I chose to take my life back. The journey hasn’t been easy, actually, there have been a lot of bumps along the way, but it’s my journey, and I love it!

The last 2 years at Strong Tower not only strengthened my shoe collection, but I’ve gained confidence, stamina, power, balance, strength, endurance, and friendship. There’s nothing that brings people together more than doing hard things, together! Love my fitfam!
